HypnoBirthing teaches you all about your birthing body & your birth choices so you can trust in your ability to birth your baby. Feel empowered by the choices you make during your pregnancy and birth & learn how you can achieve a calm, peaceful and possibly even pain-free birth.

What is HypnoBirthing?

In a very direct way, HypnoBirthing is a way of managing pain, fear and anxiety during childbirth, utilizing key techniques that help you to relax, surrender, stay calm and trust in your body.

In a more indirect way, HypnoBirthing is a method of introspective learning, where you tune into your body, dig into deep rooted beliefs, and teach yourself at a subconscious level. Its a step above just meditation and channels a much deeper level of relaxation and control then you may have realized you were capable of.

Hypnobirthing is so dynamic that it's hard to explain the capacity of what you will learn. Its a combination of a birthing class PLUS special techniques to be able to let go of fears, staying calm, and achieving a peaceful birth. Here are some things you can expect to learn:

  • Relaxation/Self-Hypnosis techniques to eliminate the fear and tension that cause long labors and discomfort, replacing it with confidence, calm, and comfort.

  • Visualization, breathing and deepening techniques to produce a shorter, more comfortable labor.

  • We debunk the myth that pain must accompany normal birthing and why birth does not have to be a medical event or scary

  • How the mother's body is designed to work in harmony with nature throughout labor. A real deep dive into child birth that they don't teach you in a hospital

  • A look at evidenced based rationale and speaking to your care providers for informed consent

  • Preparing for your postpartum period. Breastfeeding, self care, and newborn care

What HypnoBirthing is NOT...

DSC_0503 copyfb.jpg

Does it matter if my doula practices or believes in HypnoBirthing?

  • Hypnobirthing is NOT some alternate power that takes over you. This is all YOU, channeling everything inside yourself to feel confident and trust your body. Though we do not talk about religion in this class, I encourage you to use the power of your belief to aid you in your journey. It does not have to be a spiritual journey, but for some, it can be. Let it speak to you in the way that feeds your soul.

  • Hypnobirthing is NOT scary, or eerie. You are not 'put to sleep' or in an unconscious trance. You are a willing participant who is completely aware of your surroundings at all times.

  • Hypnobirthing is NOT stage hypnosis. I can't make you do embarrassing things or force you to do or say anything you don't want to. You are capable of entering and exiting your meditative state at any time.

  • Hypnobirthing does NOT promise a pain-free birth. That is all up to YOU, but HypnoBirthing can teach you how and why it is possible.

  • Being in 'hypnosis' does NOT mean someone else is in control of you or putting thoughts into your head that you can't stop. Hypnosis is a deep level of focus, and simply has a bad rap from movies, tv shows and stage performances for entertainment purposes. That is all acting and not what TRUE hypnosis is.

If you are planning on practicing HypnoBirthing, then it can be extremely helpful to have a doula and/or midwife who also stand behind or practice HypnoBirthing. Why? Because then throughout your labor and birth, they can assist  you to apply certain techniques that you have learned. It can be incredibly beneficial for your birth staff to be able to support you using HypnoBirthing vocabulary or recite meditations that you may have been practicing.

The most important thing when searching for your doula is that they believe and support your birth choices and that your personalities mesh! Don't be afraid to ask questions and to be picky when choosing ANY of your birth staff... this also includes your midwife or doctor.
